The “Do Not Play” List: Why It’s More Important Than Your Requests

Category: Modern Weddings | Author: Loose Tie Events

Every DJ asks for your “Must Play” list. At Loose Tie Events, we are more interested in your “Do Not Play” list.

Why? Because nothing kills a vibe faster than a song that makes the bride cringe. If you hate the “Cupid Shuffle,” it is banned. If you are tired of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” it will not be played. Your event is not a democracy; it is a curation.

1. The Lazy DJ’s Crutch

Generic DJs rely on line dances and overplayed Top 40 hits because they are easy. They use them to force people onto the floor. We don’t need crutches. We use beat-mixing and energy management to fill the floor without resorting to the “Cha Cha Slide.”

2. Protecting Your Taste

Your wedding or corporate event is a reflection of you. If your taste leans towards Motown, Funk, or 2000s Hip Hop, playing a generic country song breaks the immersion. We treat your “Do Not Play” list as a legally binding contract.

3. The “Vibe Check”

Sometimes, a guest will request a song that is on your “Do Not Play” list. A rookie DJ might cave to pressure. We don’t. We politely deflect the guest and keep the integrity of your playlist intact. We work for you, not your drunk uncle.

Curate, Don’t Compromise

You have impeccable taste. Your entertainment should match it.
